To encourage the development of professional standards by its
members and the exchange of ideas; to upgrade museum
practices through mutual assistance and cooperative activities;
to stimulate public awareness and support of member
institutions and individuals by cooperating with the efforts of
related organizations with common interests; and to
disseminate information concerning middle Tennessee's
cultural, historical, and scientific heritage and resources to the public
