Community histories 2024-2025
This fall, ICON will provide an exclusive opportunity for members to use their skills to tell the story of Nashville in a new way.
ICON Community Histories aims to connect Nashville-area museum professionals with local community members to help them tell their Nashville stories. The final product of this project will be a five-part podcast and video series based on interviews with both community members and local scholars.

Episode Guide
Meet the Locals: This episode will introduce the narrative and purpose of the series. What stories exist on the foreground of Nashville History? Who decides which history is told?
​
What's In a Name?: This episode will highlight South Nashville community members, including the story of DeFord Bailey.
​
Johnny Cash and Jefferson Street: This episode will look at Nashville's rise as "Music City" through the juxtaposition of its local country music and soul scenes.
​
Coming of Age in Nashville: This episode will examine Nashville's Civil Rights legacy and the consequences of urban renewal and integration through the 1990s.
​
On Preservation: Nashville scholars and residents speak on the status of historic preservation and what work needs to be done.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for three roles to support this project. Below are the project teams and their descriptions.
